An Old Friend

It's hard not to love a face like this one. Look at the fabulous bangs!

I hadn't seen this sweet, senior fellow in quite some time. With Covid putting a stop to non-essential travel, his dad was no longer going on work trips and I, therefore, was no longer needed as a fill-in to walk him. I hadn't realized how much I had missed him until I got a call this past week, asking me if I'd be able to take him out for a few days in a row. So, for the past three evenings, I've been catching up with this old fur friend of mine.

The passing of time is so evident in more senior dogs, and I know that we need to take it easier than when I first started to walk him a few years ago. He's got the heart and soul of a young pup but, as is often the case, his body is starting to present some limitations. So, we go a bit slower, he doesn't run as much at the park and I know to look for the signs of discomfort in his legs and back. It's a balance between making sure he has fun, but isn't completely out of commission for the entire next day.

Like any good friendship, it doesn't seem to matter how much time there is in between our hangouts - we just pick it up right where we left off. I'm lucky to know him and his humans, and to have them in my life. They are just one of the many, many perks of my awesome job ☺.

Lots of love,

Joy
